CENTER, LEARN, EXPRESS, ACCEPT, REDEFINE
My name is Sarah McKee and I am a Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC) in the state of Florida with about 6 years of hands-on experience working with adolescents and young adults (ages 11–26). I take a holistic, strengths-based, and trauma-informed approach, and I am passionate about helping people create meaningful, positive changes in their lives.
I primarily work with PTSD, mood disorders (including premenstrual dysphoric disorder, bipolar disorders, depression), ADHD, anxiety disorders, low self-esteem, grief and loss, non-suicidal self-injury, crises care, stress management, and life transitions. I have extensive experience supporting youth (ages 11–19), including those who have experienced higher levels of adversity along with supporting grandparents raising grandchildren.
In brief, my work includes completing biopsychosocial assessments, developing both short- and long-term treatment plans, and integrating individualized, tailored interventions and support, with a focus on meeting each person where they are. I provide opportunities for clients to engage in expressive interventions beyond talk therapy, where art is often incorporated to allow for deeper processing and creating meaning.
I draw from evidence-based approaches such as Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) to emphasize and promote acceptance of internal experiences, present-moment awareness, and values-based action. This approach helps me support clients in engaging in meaningful behavior changes aligned with their personal values, even in the presence of distressing thoughts or emotions. Additional approaches I integrate include Positive Psychology, Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Solution-Focused strategies, and the Seeking Safety model for substance use intervention services. I have also facilitated groups for grief and loss, expressive arts for trauma recovery, and programs like Seeking Safety and Girl’s Circle for middle school, high school, and transition-age youth.
In addition, I have training in motivational interviewing, SAFE-T protocol using the C-SSRS, human trafficking intervention, trauma-responsive practices, and opioid overdose prevention and response. I also have experience in crisis advocacy and helpline support through Project Help, where I provided immediate emotional support and safety planning for individuals in distress.
